About

My name is Kate Derringer. I’m a freelance audio engineer and bassist based in Detroit.

I provide the following services:

  • Engineering

  • Mixing

  • Mastering

  • Front of house

  • Mobile recording

  • Tour management

  • Bass lessons

I play bass and sing in Shadow Show, and have engineered and mixed all of our recordings.

I focus in studio recording and production, recording and mixing a wide variety of bands ranging from rock, to R&B, to folk. I also have experience in live engineering, digital mastering, podcast audio, and as a studio tech. I teach audio engineering and bass guitar. I also work as a production builder at Acme Audio and H2 Audio, reproducing the iconic gear of Motown and Helios.

I currently record out of my own studio in Eastpointe and High Bias Recordings in Detroit. I have previous experience working as a studio tech at University of Michigan's studios in Ann Arbor, and a production assistant at Shangri La Studios in Malibu. I have a BFA in media arts from the University of Michigan, where I studied music production and engineering.

I work primarily in Pro Tools and Logic, but am also experienced in Ableton and Reaper.

If you are interested in working together on your next project, shoot me an inquiry via text or email. Before getting started, we’ll discuss what records you want to sound like, and how we can get that sound right. I look forward to helping make your sonic dreams come true. :)
